Luc De Baerdemaeker
Luc is President of ESPCOP, director of anaesthesia at the University Hospital Gent and an expert in Anaesthesia for Bariatric and Liver Surgery. His PhD was in the field of pharmacokinetics in obese patients. His excellent english and dry humour have made him a highly sought-after speaker at international conferences.

Vice-President
Michael Margarson
Mike trained in London, Oxford, Munich and Sydney, is Vice-President of ESPCOP, a founding member of SOBA-UK, and a long-term consultant in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care in Chichester, UK. His MD was in microvascular permeability and recent interests have focussed on Airways and Sleep apnoea in Severe Obesity. He has co-ordinated the Key Issues in Obesity Anaesthesia course in seven countries so far.
Treasurer
Jan Mullier
Jan is one of the two most experienced bariatric anaesthetists in Europe, and probably the world. He has been director of his department in Belgium, and has an experience of more than 20 years of bariatric anaesthesia, having welcomed literally hundreds of visitors to Brugge, to witness the techniques his hospital uses. He is widely published, with 220+ papers, and was the founding president of ESPCOP.
Secretary
Daniela Godoroja-Diarto
Daniela is the other European with the greatest experience of bariatric anaesthesia, another with some 6,000-odd cases experience. Daniela trained and works in Bucharest, where she is an associate professor at the University, and is especially renowned for her Airway Workshop organisation and teaching skills.

Tomasz Gaszynski
Tomasz is Professor in the Dept of Anaesthesia in Lodz, Poland. He also has a particular interest in airway management, extensively published in this area, with some 160+ listed papers on ResearchGate, many in conjunction with other European centres.

Sarah Saxena
Sarah is an anaesthesiology specialist from Brugge, Belgium, with academic links to the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Her PhD and primary research interests were in peri-operative neurocognitive decline, and she already has more than twenty publications to her name. On a personal level, Sarah is actively involved in improving equity, diversity, and inclusion in anesthesiology.
